Sleep Disorders Can Be Identified In EEG Via Artificial Intelligence

Sleep Disorders Can Be Identified In EEG Via Artificial Intelligence

Machine Learning Can Identify Unusual Sleep Patterns In Patients With Sleep Conditions

One of the ways to detect sleep disorders is via a diagnosis in a sleep clinic, which detects several parameters, such as the breathing pattern, and also the sleeping pattern, via an electroencephalograph test (EEG) using electrodes placed on the scalp. However, the evaluation of the EEG requires specialized training. There are algorithms that can detect certain known patterns. However, they are unable to detect unusual patterns, which include location, duration, and type of events in EEG charts. An alternate procedure is via artificial intelligence, in which machine learning can identify complex waveforms by learning from the EEG charts of patients with certain sleep disorders and detect them on other patients.
