Insomnia is worsened with depression. Sufferers do not just lay awake in bed, stressed about not being able to sleep, but also are constantly overwhelmed with negative thoughts. Insomnia increases 10 times the risk of depression. The negative thoughts can worsen into self-harm and even suicide. However, there are ways to cope with this. Among the is avoiding technology and screens in bed. The blue light in screens affects the production of melatonin, the hormone which signals the body to go to sleep.
