Binge Drinking Can Permanently Alter The Genes That Control Sleep

Binge Drinking Can Permanently Alter The Genes That Control Sleep

It Would Make Sleeping More Difficult For The Rest Of The Life

According to a study, four drinks in one session could permanently alter the sleep genes, making it more difficult to sleep for the rest of the life. Lab animals experienced an increase in non-REM sleep or dreamless sleep. Afterward, during periods when the lab rodents should have been asleep, they were awake. Specialists also observed that the test animals did not show an increase in adenosine, a chemical that promotes sleep, and did not have the impulse to sleep. They found that continuous drinking decreased the expression of the gene that controls sleep, therefore, the gene that controls sleep had lost effectivity after alcohol consumption.
